Vishwakarma was founded in 1935 with a focus on small scale fabrication of accessories and their installation on ships, boats, transports within Porbandar and nearby regions. Through the years, Vishwakarma has expanded to include large scale fabrication for the onshore and offshore industry, marine salvage, repair and maintenance of boats and ships, chartering of marine assets, project management and execution of offshore oil and gas projects and offshore installation.

Taking ahead the experience from Marine Salvage, Marine Emergency Response Centre (MERC) was conceptualised in 2014 to cater to Marine Emergencies along the coasts of India. The inauguration of MERC was done by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat. The concept of MERC is to provide rapid first response to any marine distress call by mobilizing equipment and manpower to stabilize the situation and plan for further measures. MERC has extended its domain to include its services to the near shore and offshore industry.

Founded as a small proprietary firm, today Vishwakarma executes projects through various affiliate companies.
